Immigration museum planned for Saint-Josse

11:26 27/06/2013

The government of the Brussels region has revived a plan to create a museum of immigration, according to Rachid Madrane speaking yesterday in the Brussels parliament. The museum will be known as the House of Diversity, and may find a home in Saint-Josse, the capital’s most culturally and ethnically diverse commune. Saint-Josse mayor Emir Kir (pictured), who is of Turkish antecedents, has said he is in favour of the project. The planned museum will tell the story of immigration to Brussels using the personal testimony of immigrants, archive material and artistic contributions. “In some sense, it will become an homage to the contribution made by immigrants, both European and non-European, to the city,” said Cécile Vainsel, spokeswoman for Madrane.
