How long does it take to drive from Brussels to Calais?

Question

Hi - has anyone done this? Obviously we can look up the distance online, but that doesn't account for traffic etc? We'll be setting off around 8am Saturday.

Thanks

Hi,

Do the journey often to the Eurotunnel terminus. We allow 3h 20 to get from Nethen, just to the east of Brussels, between Wavre and Leuven, going via the E40. From Uccle, 2h 30mins and I go via Lille. Quickest was 2 hours on the way back but that was going some and the E40 was quiet.

8am Saturday should be a relatively easy run but if it's a lovely day the E40 could get busy quite early with trips to the coast. Listen to traffic reports and if you can have the choice of E40 or via Lille then so much the better.

There, no definitive answer ;-)

Hope that helps

The variable part of the journey will be from your front door to the beginning of the E40, from that point on you can count 1h45 if you are driving to the speed limits. We did the journey (to the St Omer turn-off just after Dunkerque) last Saturday leaving at 9:30 and there were no hold-ups.

Some pointers you may not know:
1) in France you need to have a high visibility vest in your car
2) In France you need to carry breathalyser test
3) Watch speed just before Calais - it's 110 kph and it's police controlled!

Enjoy the journey!

No, you no longer need to carry a breathalyser:
