Holiday entitlement

Question

I would like to know what is the average annual holiday entitlement in Belgium and also the minimum legal holiday entitlement. thanks

ao

The annual holidays are 20 days for full time employee. The holidays are accrued during the year preceding the holiday year, so if you did not work in Belgium during the previous year you are not entitled to paid holidays. For part time employees the holidays are calculated pro rata, again based on the previous year. Same in case you worked only part of the year.

Many employees have flex time system, where the weekly hours are bit longer and as exchange you get some extra holidays. Another Belgian speciality is that bank holidays falling on weekends entitle you to a day off on another date. Depending on employer, this can be fixed date for whole company or the employee can choose the date freely
