Help desk at ULB to tackle sexual intimidation

14:01 24/10/2017

Following the recent “Me, too” social media action in response to revelations about sexual intimidation and harassment in Hollywood, the Free University of Brussels (ULB) has announced that it is launching a help desk for students on the subject.

The idea for the department, which is due to launch by the end of the month, is directly based on the number of ULB students who described their own experiences with sexual intimidation on social media, particularly Facebook. Students reported experiences ranging from inappropriate comments to obscene gestures to outright physical harassment, including on campus.

“The idea is to create connections in every faculty between students, researchers and administrative workers,” said ULB vice-rector Laurent Licata. “We need the victims to know that we are right there with them and be able to guide them” in such circumstances.
