Hi Brian, I haven't seen any asking for proof of handicap but many will ask for proof of membership somewhere. This is to ensure golfers are fully insured. I've played La Tournette a few times without being asked for anything, they have two championship courses.

If you don't want to join a club, the International Golf Club may be a good option for you. IGC costs roughly 200 euros a year and includes formal membership of the Belgian Golf Federation. You pay a discounted green fee at almost any course in Belgium, and they organize golf every weekend. It's a great option for expats who can't play regularly.
