Many young mothers have a baby list at a shop of their choice. When the baby is born it's usual to receive an annoucement card together with visiting details (hospital or home) and a card from the chosen shop. If you are close to your niece, you might be able to shop before the baby arrives so you can have first pick, or you can buy something that's suggested but not on the list.
