Four young people have died after a car careered off a bridge over the canal in Brussels yesterday evening, Flanders News reports. Three died at the scene and the fourth, a passenger, died of his injuries in a Brussels hospital. The accident happened at around 21.00 last night on the Van Praet bridge, which forms part of the road linking Schaerbeek with Laeken, Neder-over-Heembeek and the A12 motorway. The 22-year old driver lost control of his Peugeot convertible and it left the road, falling several metres to the quayside next to the canal. All were aged between 19 and 22 and came from greater Brussels. No other vehicles were involved, and it is not yet known what caused the driver to lose control.
