This forum is dead

Question

This forum is dead - you post a question, there are no or 1-2 replies, of limited use.

Can't Bulletin get rid of the log-in system (like before) and make it more lively?

@RPPKN
The system you suggest actually existed - presumably before you arrived here - with the non-moderated section called the 'Forum'.
It was withdrawn because it served no obviously useful purpose..........unless you consider the freedom to post obscenities galore a 'useful purpose'. It seemed as though the only people using it were teenagers who had got access to the family computer when Mum wasn't watching.
What could and should be re-instated is the requirement to post your location with your question. I long ago gave up posting answers which first require me to ask, 'Where do you live?'
People seem to forget that the site is aimed at the whole of Belgium and that not all users have good French.

I doubt having to register to post has anything to do with the decline in use. Most sites insist on this. This site is mostly hostile and unfriendly. Why would people bother using this site when people like J come on here and abuse them? Life is way too short and most people just don't behave like that and won't put up with being abused like that!

Anybody remember Meena? It was an apt name to say the least. Yes, it may have been the forum now I think back.

A pity indeed.

More lively than the morgue at Angloinfo, but sadly asymptoting its way to the same place.

A pity because many of you have so much information to offer and the spats can be entertaining.

Guess I'll have to join a FB forum. Kind of liked it being not part of that junk filled monstrosity.

I'll miss you, Mum.

Many forums are actually Q&As, but they are dedicated to one topic or another, and people follow them because they are enthusiastic about computer softawre or travel or Jamaican music. One has to develop a sort of compulsion to keep visiting this Q&A regularly just to see if someone has asked a question about where to find a particular brand of diapers or what is a good fish restaurant or is it cheaper to buy paint in Luxembourg. Nothing connects all the types of questions here into a hobby or an interest. You have to be a good Samaritan or to be compulsive. Probably the entertainment that existed in old times recruited people, but on occasions there was entirely too much abuse.

I am enthusiastic about Belgium, living here, and the trials and tribulations of being a non-native. That, essentially, is the single-topic this Q&A serves and that connects the questions.

Maybe the exodus of English speakers due to economic harder times also play a part I don't visit daily but when I do I answer what I can. I appreciate replies if I post. I don't have hassle login in it's auto saved.,however maybe some people want a forum to argue and I for one don't care for that . I know someone who asked a legitimate question felt some replies were hostile and so left immediately.

Given some of the negativity towards Belgium here, that doesn't exactly surprise me.

Mind you - I'm not overly patient with people who don't bother googling the blatantly obvious, or who think they might get a useful answer to a complex problem without giving a clear and concise background to the issue.
