Forest to get new Islamic school via crowdfunding
The Islamic centre El Hikma has collected €1 million for the purchase of a building in Rue Saint-Denis in Forest where they will open a new Islamic primary school, Brusselnieuws.be reports. The school will be the fourth Islamic primary school in Brussels, where students incorporate two hours of Islamic prayer per week into the regular school disciplines.
The crowdfunding campaign, which was meant to end on Friday, had reached its financial goal by Wednesday when the project heads announced that they had received enough money to buy the building.
“This is the last step necessary for our school to be recognised by the French Community,” Cimane El Bakkali, vice president of El Hikma, told La Capitale .
Registrations for the school will open once El Hikma has the keys to the building in hand. They hope to begin with five kindergarten classes in September but eventually will need to accommodate at least 450 students to receive subsidies from the French Community.
