Footballer Kevin De Bruyne is Sportsman of the Year in Belgium
Kevin De Bruyne, midfielder of Belgium's national football team, the Red Devils, and Manchester City, was elected Sportsman of the Year 2015 by fellow Belgian athletes. The 24-year-old football player follows in the footsteps of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who won the prestigious award last year.
De Bruyne was chosen as Sportsman of the Year over champion discus thrower Philip Milanov and professional cyclist Greg Van Avermaet. He received the award during the gala event in Brussels at the weekend.
The Sportswoman of the Year award went to boxer Delfine Persoon. The world champion was not present to collect her prize, however, out of dissatisfaction with the outcome last year, when the award went to Belgian athlete Nafi Thiam instead of Persoon.
