follow-up to question posted on 10 March - Contesting a debt
this is a follow-up to the last reply from RPPKN:
It seems that this debt has been made in my name online without my knowledge and kept hidden from me unitl of recent my the debt collectors sent me the bills, etc.
As mentioned, it seems that this has been done online in my name so now I have a difficult case to prove that it was not me !
what the hell can i do? see a lawyer!?
As far as I know, in order to be able to buy something online or make other sort of monetary commitment, this person must have had access to several of your details, such as logins, passwords, your electronic bank card reader and its pin, etc. Is this the case? If so, as you say you will have an almost impossible task to prove that it was not you.
If this is not the case and this person has been able to make this debt in your name without any kind of verification, then you have a case against whichever company is involved and should pursue it. But to me this seems an unlikely scenario.
You could try to launch criminal proceedings against this person, but it is probably throwing good money after bad - if they contest everything, how are you going to prove it was them?
Maybe best to pay up and take this as an (expensive) lesson. And of course, high time to sever all ties to this person if you still have any.
I agree with RPPKN. If you don't pay now the interest will accumulate and things can get worse. You should also change any login information known to this person to prevent a repeat. What else you can do depends on whether you know the person (which your post seems to imply) or not (which is more sinister).
