Flu epidemic reaches new peak

11:05 14/02/2013

The flu epidemic in Belgium has reached a new peak. Last week, about 1,083 out of 100,000 Belgians visited the doctor with flu symptoms. This is the highest number in more than five years, according to the Institute of Public Health (IPH). "The severity of the epidemic remains average, but the virus seems to spread easily among the population resulting in a significant proportion of the population becoming infected," reports IPH. What is most remarkable about this year's flu epidemic is that it affects people of all ages, but especially more adults who don't fall under typically high-risk groups such as children and the elderly.
