Flipkens earns half of career prize money in ten days
By reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon, Belgian tennis sensation Kirsten Flipkens has earned in the past ten days almost half of what she had previously earned in her entire career. With this place in the semis, Flipkens is already guaranteed to take home €467,000 – plus a further €14,000 for the doubles tournament, totalling €481,000. And that’s if she crashes out now. "Flipper", who turned pro in 2003, had until pocketed the equivalent of €990,000 in prize money. If she reaches the final, Flipkens, 27, will take home €934,000. Winning the title in London will net her €1.86m. In order to reach the final, she has to see off Marion Bartoli tomorrow afternoon. Back in 2007, the Frenchwoman had caused an upset at the semis by beating ... Justine Henin.
