Flexible rail tickets for home-workers to be available in 2022

12:13 27/12/2021

New flexible season tickets are to be launched by national rail service SNCB/NMBS during 2022.

The offer reflects the rise in home-working during the coronavirus pandemic and is designed for rail commuters who only travel to the office two or three days a week.

It follows a successful pilot project conducted by the national rail service from June for 6-7,000 commuters working for large public and private companies that offer employees season tickets.

The new pass will be available for people working for companies and institutions as well as individual commuters. They can opt for either 80 or 120 days of their choice within a 12-month period to and from a fixed workplace, or choose six or 10 days per month to travel.

These flexible packages are cheaper than existing standard season passes, which allow commuters to travel daily between two train stations.

The new tickets are for smartphone users only; existing paper passes will remain in use.
