Fence

Question

Hello All

We have just returned from a week back in the UK to find that our neighbours have erected a 2m high fence along the length of our garden. It is on their land, next to the existing shared fence (which is less than 1m high).

Can they do this without our permission? I know it is on their land, but it is a massive wooden construction and therefore reduces our view considerably, from not only the garden, but from within our house aswell.

Always thought we got on OK with them - so this is a bit of a shock! Don't want to start a dispute, but just wanted to know if they are within their rights. Even if they are, I would of thought it would have been a matter of courtesy to consult us first?

Thanks for any advice

Luke

Depends on the commune -- Our one you can not install a "solid" fence without planing permission -- so everyone uses 2 metre wire fencing and then attach screening to it (those that stick to the rules anyway). If you want -- have an informal word with the commune. Would have been nice to mention it to you before doing it.
