Feel safe in the city? Take part in official Brussels survey

23:18 05/04/2018

A major survey has been launched to find out just how safe people in Brussels feel.

The newly formed crime prevention body BPS (Brussels Prevention and Security) has commissioned a six-month poll of locals, commuters and tourists.

"Respondents will be asked about their feeling of safety," said BPS director Jamil Araoud. "Police statistics only measure actual crimes reported. We want to go further and see how to improve people's subjective feelings."

The survey can be completed online hereIt will also be carried out face-to-face.

For commuters, the surveys will mostly be done in railway stations and park-and-rides. For tourists, the researchers will work with Visit Brussels and some hotels. For residents, 1,800 house visits will be carried out.

The results should be published in the autumn. "This initiative is a unique opportunity to help determine the direction of security policy in the Brussels region," said minister-president Rudi Vervoort. "I invite everyone to take part."
