Family visa question
I'm a Belgian citizen married to a non-EU wife. In 2006 we (wife & son) moved from South Africa to Belgium. My wife was issued with a family (D+C) visa without any problems.
We moved back to SA in 2009 and the residence cards which my wife and son obtained in 2006 was handed back to the commune when we left. My youngest son was born in Leuven and has Belgian citizenship.
We now want to return to Belgium, but according to my info I now have to submit proof of income (12 months) and proof of housing (rental contract or proof of ownership) in order for a family visa to be granted to my wife and eldest son.
This is impossible for me as i will be returning to Belgium for the first time in 6 years.
Has anybody experienced the same scenario and have any advice? Feeling frustrated...
Thank you.
I can understand your frustration.
1) You can show your job offer in Belgium as a proof of income plus you can also show proof of income whilst you were in SA.
2) There is no need to show proof of housing in Belgium ( Tell them straight you need to find a home after you move in with the family-) Some staff are very bookish.- If you have copies of old residence card of your wife, you can attach them.
One of my friend had a similar experience ( the embassy staff asked for proof of housing), but in the next visit he met a different staff and there is no need for proof of housing.
If you still have issues, I recommend to use the service of relocation agencies in Belgium and they can handle things faster and efficient but they do cost more.
Asking for proof of residence is one of the things they are asking for dependent's visa. I would recommend getting a contract via:
They do daily, weekly, yearly contracts and this would be a good place to start esp since you are not yet in the country.
