Experiences from Ecole Communal de Stockel (maternelle)?

Question

Hello,

I'm considering changing my 3,5 years old daughter's school from Sacre Coeur to Ecole Communal de Stockel because I'm not happy with the garderier service at Sacre Coeur among few other things. Does anyone have good experiences of Ecole Communal de Stockel?

both schools have excellent reputations and both also suffer from not enough supervision of children and parents leaving gates open, in addition parents failing to collect their children, not paying for garderie, increasing numbers unnecessarily!!!! I really don't think you'll gain a thing. If anything, it's probably even harder to supervise garderie at EC de Stockel because of the higher numbers and the building work is probably going to play havoc for the next year. The only real differences in the schools are size (19 classes V soon to be 28 classes) and one is controlled by the commune, the other by a group of lay persons nominally attached to a few nuns. If you want a better ratio of supervision, you'd have to live in Kraainen / Wezembeek and send your child to St Georges or ND de la Trinité as these are tiny schools. If you're unhappy with aspects of a school, I'd suggest going to the Parents' Association in the first instance who can help liaise with any discussions you might want to have with leadership. As SC de Stockel has a new head from September, reaction to complaints is at the moment unpredictable.

I'm quite happy with EC de Stockel. My son has been attending that establishment since 2010. In September, he'll be a second grader. Academically, I must say I'm delighted. Chikdren develop their skills quickly and in a harmonious manner under the supervision of competent educators. Children and parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the school, which is great. On the other hand, lack of space is an obvious hindrance and the construction works in the Flemish part only began in March, so there's a lot ahead of us.

When my son was in the maternelle section, there were no major problems I can recall. Of course, the interiors etc. look underfunded, but there have been investments, too (the roof over a part of the playground). The supervisors in the maternelle section are not educators, that's true, but most of them did their job well. Some parents complained about their kids being shown cartoons on rainy days, but to my mind, it's no major harm.

You actually have the choice between 2 schools of this quality.

Do you think that is one isn't good enough for you, that the other one will be much better?
