Eurostar terminal at Brussels-Midi to be expanded and improved
The Eurostar terminal in Brussels-Midi station will undergo major renovation, with work expected to last until summer 2025.
Every year, an average of 2.2 million passengers travelling on Eurostar trains between Brussels and London pass through the terminal, where they are processed by customs and immigration.
After the renovation, the number of seats in the terminal will double to 600, and sanitary facilities and lighting will be improved. There will also be additional catering facilities.
A semi-automatic border control system - using facial recognition technology - will also be installed in the terminal beginning in May.
This new European system will check and register all travellers, including those from non-EU and non-Schengen countries.
A second phase of the renovation will provide an opportunity to extend the terminal's surface area, although SNCB is not specifying the extent of this.
All the work should be completed by the summer 2025, according to the rail operator, which is financing the improvements but did not say how much has been invested.
