Eurocontrol breakdown causes Zaventem flight delays

20:38 03/04/2018

Flights at Brussels Airport should be back to normal on Wednesday after a technical failure at Eurocontrol caused major delays.

The European air traffic agency reduced flight capacity by 10% across Europe on Tuesday due to problems with its flow management system, which started around midday.

Passenger and cargo take-offs from Zavetem were limited to 10 per hour, with the exception of some very short flights such as Frankfurt which do not fly high enough to be affected.

In total, about half of the 29,500 flights scheduled across Europe on Tuesday were delayed. Eurocontrol said the source of the problem was found late on Tuesday afternoon and was due to be fixed later that evening.

If you're flying late on Tuesday evening, check with your airline, on the Brussels Airport app or website.
