€700,000 campaign for new Wallonia logo

12:43 03/07/2013

Walloon economy minister Jean-Claude Marcourt will today recommend that the government award a grant of €700,000 to a campaign to promote the new visual identity of Wallonia abroad, L’Echo reports today. The campaign will be launched in October and will include adverts on television, in newspapers and on websites. Other promotional actions will also be aimed at the international community in Belgium, with displays at the Thalys and Eurostar terminals. The new logo will also be  visible at the F1 Grand Prix in Francorchamps in August. This logo will be associated with the slogan: "Feel inspired". The campaign will be broadcast on CNN, the BBC’s international channels and other major media.

The new site Wallonia.be will be presented before the end of the year. Ironically, the domain name has been the property of …  a Flemish pensioner since December 2000. The Walloon Export Agency (AWEX) is expected to soon become the rightful owner of the domain name, however. A deal has been reached with the current owner, with whom AWEX has a verbal agreement, which followed an exchange of e-mails. A transaction worth €2,500 could be completed before next week , under which Awex would lease the domain name until December 31, 2014 before becoming its official owner as of January 1, 2015.
