€6.3m loss for 2012 Belgian Grand Prix

12:34 21/08/2013

While the Belgian GP in Spa-Francorchamps may be an annual tradition since 1925, the 2012 financial year closing with a loss of more than €6 million has organisers and sponsors questioning the future of the Formula One World Championship race. Last year, the Brit Jenson Button came out the winner, but the event was marred by a heavy crash in which two-time world champion Fernando Alonso was partly involved. This weekend is the 2013 edition of the Belgian GP, a highlight for many Belgian F1 fans and drivers, and a chance to forget, at least temporarily, about the race's bleak outlook.
