€6 million renovation of Royal Palace facade completed

09:12 04/06/2025

The renovation of the facades of the Royal Palace in Brussels has been completed, according to an announcement from the Buildings Agency, the property manager of the Belgian state.

The renovation work, which started in spring 2024, included the cleaning and restoration of the entire facade of the palace.

The rear and side facades, balustrades, stone steps, garden walls, statues and fencing were also given a facelift.

“The exterior joinery was also restored or replaced and fitted with thermally insulating glazing for better insulation,” the Buildings Agency said.

The renovation campaign required an investment of approximately €6 million. The work was organised in phases so that the Royal Palace could remain operational throughout.

The project also involved the restoration or replacement of 700 windows, the cleaning and restoration of 420 balustrades and 18,000m² of facades, and restoration of steel and woodwork.

Seven stone staircases were also cleaned and restored, along with 4,500m² of garden walls, 305m² of fences and enclosures, and 16 statues.

The statues included six figures on the roofs and, on the fences, four stone soldiers, four angels and two lions.
