€2.6 million Bockstael redesign inaugurated this Sunday
The inhabitants of the Bockstael area in Laeken have stoically suffered through a year of complete disruption: tram lines moved, pavements widened and reconstructed, roadways realigned, historic buildings restored and repurposed, and bike paths and a park created - a disruption that made life miserable for pedestrians, cyclists, shop owners and drivers alike.
But finally the €2.6 million budget is spent and, this Sunday, everyone is invited to celebrate the completion and enjoy what the city is calling “a whole new public space, greener, safer, more user-friendly and convivial which is available to the people of Laeken".
This is the crowning piece of the Bockstael sustainable neighbourhood contract which over a period of seven years and with a €45 million budget supplied by the city of Brussels, the Brussels region and Beliris, built a new youth centre, daycare centre, parks, a socio-cultural café, energy efficient housing and a linear park connection between Bockstael Square and the Tour & Taxis green zone.
On the programme on Sunday, during the inauguration (from 11.00-18.00), there will be a street-dance workshop, meetings with the Cyclo team from the Bockstael bike point, musical performances by Batuk-Arte, guided tours discovering the neighborhood, circus performances by To Be Queen, drawing workshops and much more.
