€100 million Walibi makeover delayed until 2021

20:16 20/11/2019

A €100 million project to redevelop Walibi theme park in Wavre has been delayed, with works now not due to begin until 2021.

The amusement park has plans for a major makeover, including the construction of the biggest and fastest rollercoaster in the Benelux.

"We must reopen at Easter and we were not certain we would have been able to do so properly, with the right conditions for visitors," said Walibi general manager Jean-Christophe Parent. "No one wanted to embark on this project over the winter."

Works will instead get under way a year later, with a view to being completed in 2023. About three quarters of the park will undergo some form of change - including the entrance area, which will be completely redesigned.

The biggest part of the redevelopment is the construction of a brand-new area at the back of the park, on 4.5 hectares of unoccupied land, which will house the new 80-metre-tall rollercoaster.
