€1 million thrown into bottle banks every week

09:57 23/09/2014

Each week around 100,000 glass bottles are recycled via bottle banks, container parks and on the curb, many of which were sold with a deposit of €.10 to €.30, reports the newspaper group Sudpresse. The total amount recycled every week amounts to €1 million in deposits.

In the larger cities, some people are now trying to dig out bottles with deposits, even going so far as to damage bottle banks in the process. This accounts for why an increasing number of bottle banks are buried in the ground.

Every year recycling organisation Fost Plus recycles more than 334,000 tonnes of glass.
