Escalators in metro stations

Question

Hi, I have noticed that it is common for people to stand on both sides of the escalator here in Brussels, making it at best diffcult for anyone in a hurry to overtake them.
Is this normal, or are we meant to 'stand on the left' unlike in London where it's on the right?

J

This happens in London as well...
Just bark "excuse me" at them and push past. Please be patent with pushchairs though.

Hi J, yes I know obviously it does happen in London too (mostly tourists), but at least in London there are signs saying "please stand on the right".
Just wondering what the official regulations / habits are, that's all

No - This is Brussels - If the rules don't suit or don't exist, you make up new rules as you go along.

London has changed! Have just got back from London after not visiting for very many years. First disappointment was that the 'English' don't stand to one side any longer, don't hold the door open any longer, don't give up their seat in the tube etc. They used to but cultures are changing - not always for the better ...
