Electricity Audit

Question

Does anyone know how to request a detailed audit of one's own electricity consumption in an apartment? How much would it cost? My provider is electrabel. Thanks.

Isabella

You will receive one at the end of the year when they come to read your meter. If you have paid more, they will refund you. If you have paid less, you pay them extra. Don't you pay a certain amount each month?

Thanks. It does not answer my question though. I know what my overall consumption each month is but I don't know it in details, what appliances consume more or less energy. How to find out? With a full audit?

I’m not exactly sure what you are looking for but, if it is simply an indication of how much power each individual piece of electrical apparatus uses, you can get a gadget which fits between the supply and the apparatus and gives a digital readout of consumption.

I had an ‘energy scan’ done a couple of years ago. I am an Electrabel customer but the scan was done by Iverlek , an Electrabel subsidiary. The scan was free and consisted of a visit to my home where the engineer checked out all my electrical equipment and advised how I might reduce consumption – in some cases by replacing elderly items, in others by adjusting settings and so on. I was given a comprehensive written report after the scan was completed.

Thanks. Did you buy these gadgets at media markt / vandenbore? I couldn't find info on this energy scan on the electrabel site, how did you order it?

The gadget came from electrabel and, at a guess, was offered on an insert with the bill. It was several years ago that I got it.

Similarly with the energy scan. I can't remember precise details but I have found:
http://www.energiescans.be/
This only applies to Flemish areas but I'll bet there is something similar for the French speaking areas.
I remember that the formal written report was in Dutch but the engineer explained everything in English whilst he was carrying out the check.
