Electric car-sharing scheme coming to Liège
Following the success of Cambio car sharing, Liège will introduce an all-electric car sharing scheme in different districts of the city from September.
Companies have until 19 May to put in an application to run the scheme, and Brussels electric service Zencar is reportedly interested. The city will set aside parking space for at least 10 cars.
The winning firm will pay a €600 fee per vehicle per year - the equivalent of an annual parking permit. The number of stations and vehicles is the main criterion for awarding the contract, as well as technical innovation and quality of service. The concession is for a period of seven years.
City councillors welcomed the project on Monday. Liberal Gilles Forêt said he hoped the city would go further and introduce "free-floating" car sharing, where users can leave their vehicle in any parking space.
