Electric car charging stations to be installed every 25km on Flemish motorways
Flemish motorways will have a fast charging station for electric vehicles every 25km by the end of 2025, according to the Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV).
The figure represents a total of 130 fast-charging points, compared to the 95 currently located along or near motorways.
“The Flemish government will achieve its objective of installing charging facilities every 25km along or near motorways by the end of 2025,” the AWV announced.
“The European targets for charging infrastructure for passenger transport will also be met ahead of schedule.”
Building such a charging infrastructure requires a great deal of preparation.
“A 350-kilowatt ultra-fast charger, which delivers maximum power for one hour, corresponds to the daily consumption of an average of 30 families,” the AWV said.
“To achieve this, it’s often necessary to extend the electricity grid and build a distribution cabin, for which an environmental permit is required.”
