Electrabel lowers its rates… then raises them

12:00 11/01/2013

Energy supplier Electrabel made the headlines last month when it announced a drop in electricity and gas prices, but this price decrease applies only to those who were already customers by December, L’Avenir reports. Those tempted to join the provider this month or next month, however, will pay a higher tariff. The cuts announced by Electrabel are guaranteed to customers, but not for future clients. The official Belgian energy watchdog, meanwhile, insists that ‘cheaper than before’ does not necessarily mean ‘most attractive’, and points out that Electrabel remains Belgium’s most expensive energy provider.
