Election duty

Question

Could you please let me know, if one does election duty in Brussels, do they get a day off or not? What are the rights, please?

Many thanks!

depends on what you mean by "election duty"?
If you mean just going to vote, then you are not entitled to a day off.
If you are actually officially involved at a polling station, you may be entitled but you will have to make further enquiries about that.
Maybe try:

Elections are usually held on a Sunday here, I assume to ensure most of the population can attend as voting is obligatory.

I've a vague memory that when my wife had to work at a polling station, without asking for it, she got an official 'attest' to give to her employer to get a day off work in lieu of the day she worked for the election.
