E-invoicing to become the norm in Belgium
Within five years, e-invoicing, or electronic billing, should become common practice in Belgium, according to Alexander De Croo, federal minister for the digital agenda.
A study by the department for administrative simplification shows that the cost of a digital invoice is €5 to €9 cheaper than a paper version. Making the switch to e-invoicing across the country could save businesses, citizens and the government as much as €3.37 billion per year, the study shows.
De Croo therefore announced his intention to work together with Theo Francken, state secretary in charge of administrative simplification, to encourage all companies to gradually introduce e-invoicing, with an aim to make it obligatory over the next five years.
