E-commerce in Belgium is lagging behind
Belgium needs to catch up when it comes to e-commerce, or online shopping capabilities, said digital agenda minister Alexander De Croo during an e-commerce trade fair in Kortrijk. The minister emphasised the enormous opportunities that e-commerce offers in the European market, and said that Belgium cannot afford to lag behind, according to Express.be.
Not one Belgian company can be found among Europe’s largest e-commerce companies. De Croo warned that this absence could mean a significant economic disadvantage for Belgium in the long run.
He points out that the digital sector is growing seven times faster than other sectors. E-commerce is also an important engine for job creation, according to the minister, who expressed his desire to set up a regular dialogue with the industry to see what steps need to be taken to give the sector a boost.
