Dutch-Belgian border blockades hinder traffic

12:03 08/03/2013

The A2 at the Dutch-Belgian border has been blocked since shortly after 9.00 this morning by disgruntled ArcelorMittal workers. The employees of the steel company blocked the road in both directions by parking dozens of buses at Visé and Eijsden. They are protesting the imminent closing of the ArcelorMittal plant in Liege, which will result in the loss of some 1,300 jobs. Traffic on the A2 into Belgium is being redirected via Hasselt. From there, traffic can reach Liège on the A13. The blockade is expected to last a few hours.
