Dongle / 3G France

I will be spending three weeks in France in August and would like to know the best way to connect to the Internet from my laptop - I was thinking a dongle and a 3/4G connection?

Does anyone have any advice or tips on what is the best way? I will be staying somewhere without wifi, so looking for a convenient and cheap(ish) option.
