Dodgy area of Schaerbeeck
I have been looking for an apartment in Schaerbeek for my daughter and a friend who are studying at St Lukas on the Rue de Palais. I have found a great apartment on the rue Royale which is just a hop, skip and a jump away from the campus. I am however concerned about safety in the area - my daughter is a very sweet looking 18 year old and I feel that before I settle her in I should do some research about safety in the area. I would appreciate any advice and opinions concerning this matter.
It's probably one of the safer parts of central-ish Brussels. Quite a Turkish area, so good shops, no drunks, and little harassment. I have friends who've lived there for years and loved it. Proximity to college should be a big safety factor as well.
Hi Eileen if in doubt go for a wander in an evening and see what you feel. To be honest no where is totally safe so also get your daughter on a safety awareness course.
