Digital TV box...

Can anyone recommend a digital box system that you can plug into your TV to receive digital TV programs? I've seen a couple of different ones for sale in boxes at different multi media shops but aren't sure which is the best or easiest to use. We have a cable connection but find the system isn't that good so we're looking at a digi-box set-up similar to the ones you can get in the UK where you pay a one-off fee to buy the unit then receive digital Tv programs from then on...

Any advice welcome...
