Digital Minds for Belgium to encourage economic development

11:31 11/02/2015

Deputy prime minister Alexander De Croo yesterday launched Digital Minds, a council of 20 people tasked with putting Belgium firmly on the digital map. Included among the council members are Belgacom’s Dominique Leroy, Telenet’s John Porter, Belgian Google boss Thierry Geerts and digital media guru Peter Hinssen.

With the Digital Minds initiative, telecommunications minister De Croo aims to help Belgium catch up with the rest of the world in terms of digital development. The intention is to have the government and private businesses in Belgium work together to join the digital revolution.

De Croo carefully selected the 20 ‘Digital Minds for Belgium’, a group of leaders from the digital world, including CEOs, academics, entrepreneurs and opinion leaders who are to lead Belgium in digital development, thereby encouraging economic development and job creation.

One part of the ambitious plan, for example, is to provide more opportunities for the development of start-ups in Belgium.
