Diagnosed with Diabetes what now?

Hi there,

A good friend (French speaker) of mine was just diagnosed with Diabetes. He's in therapy at the hospital but is not happy with the support he's receiving there. Can anyone recommend a good specialist in this area? And a group/association for people who suffer from Diabetes to exchange thoughts etc.?
Any recommendations/addresses are more than welcome.
