Deliveries to return to normal as Bpost strike ends

20:36 12/11/2018

Your empty letterbox should start to fill up again this week, as Bpost workers agreed to call off their strike on Monday night.

Deliveries have been disrupted since last Wednesday, as a series of 24-hour strikes affected a different department each day, from sorting offices to transport, parcel deliveries to post office branch counters.

Striking workers were protesting about conditions in general, including staff shortages and increased workload. CGSP trade union rep Jean-Pierre Nyns said an agreement with management had not yet been finalised, but "because of positive developments, we have decided to suspend our actions".

Bpost management said it was "particularly pleased with the progress, which will enable the service to resume again at a crucial time of year for customers."

A Bpost spokeswoman said it would take several days for the backlog of undelivered mail to be cleared.
