Dedicated improv theatre venue to open in Forest

21:32 15/09/2018

A new theatre opening next month in Forest claims to be the first in Belgium dedicated entirely to improv.

L'Improviste, on Rue de Fierlant, is due to open on 20 October, after three years of "intensive work", founder and comedian Patrick Spadrille told RTBF.

"Improv has been around in Belgium for at least 30 years - and over the past 10-15 years there have been more and more activities, and it's the same in many other countries," he said.

"I think it makes sense now to create a place dedicated to improvisational theatre. It's a genre which continues to reinvent itself. We would like there to be improvised dance and improvised music. We also have contacts for shows in English and Dutch, and why not other languages?"

The theatre will be open six days a week. Belgian and international troupes can book the venue for up to three shows per day. When no show is scheduled, the space will be used for training workshops.

In The Bulletin autumn magazine, out this week, you can find out about Belgium's growing improv scene and how taking part in improv can bring benefits.
