De Croo wants Belgium in top three digital countries
Digital agenda minister Alexander De Croo (pictured) yesterday presented a plan to make Belgium one of the world’s most digitally advanced countries. The minister wants to see Belgium join Europe’s top three digital leaders, with the creation of 1,000 startup companies and 50,000 jobs within the next five years. The plan includes much faster internet connections and a fully digital government.
"With a focused strategy and sustained effort it should be possible to get Belgium in the digital top three of the European Digital Economy and Society Index. We want to help 1,000 new startups get off the ground, and create 50,000 new jobs in various sectors," De Croo says.
For his ambitious plans to materialise, De Croo can count on the support of his Digital Minds for Belgium task force, a group of digital experts who aim to help Belgium excel in digital innovation, primarily for the sake of economic progress and job creation.
