Corn Bread or muffins.

Question

I have been looking everywhere for cornmeal in order to make corn bread or muffins, can't find this anywhere. I even looked for substitutes such as Polenta but found out that it is not the same due to the consistency of how the corn is ground. Can anyone please suggest where I can find this product, if possible ordering online because I live too far from any big city such as Brussels, I would greatly appreciate the information. Thanks in advance.

Aveve is a countrywide group selling a wide range of bread making flours.
Check out Aveve.be for your nearest branch.
You are looking for 'maismeel' in Dutch (sorry no idea what the French equivalent is).

The big Delhaizes sell US cornmeal. The one in Overijse certainly does. I've also bought it in Turkish shops. I must say I've never seen it in Aveve, and I buy my regular flour there. I'll look again next time!

You can definitely find it in the grocery stores (not the small express ones!) usually near where they have the lentils or in the international section near lentils and rice. They come in a plastic packaging with red accents and a see through area where you can look and verify that it is corn meal :) I have made muffins and bread many times with success (but not with the polenta stuff!).

Cornmeal is widely available any major supermarket but is best bought from some of 'health' shops. Look for "farine de semoule de maïs" in French.

Thank you all for your answers, I am looking forward being able to finaly find cornmeal as several suggested, although my wife and I love the food products sold here in Belgium, there comes a time where we miss certain things that we loved while living in the states (especially corn bread or muffins and also black beans). Again, thank you, Merci pour vos réponses, Bedankt voor uw antwoord.
