Controle Technique or CT as it's known............
Just go & get it done ASAP. There is a fine. Not big to start, but does get bigger the longer you leave it.
Small fine and the new CT is valid for a year from the date when it SHOULD have been done.
You should be aware that an invalid CT can be used by your insurers as a reason to refuse any claim that you might make so it makes sense not to use the car until you take it to the CT centre.
I have a "classic" that has been off road for a few years -- ive kept it insured to keep the plate - get the CT reminder every year and have a couple of times received a form to complete asking why not tested. (very scarce parts found and being fitted by a friend in another country (was trailered there!) I'll stop rambling -- How much is the fine after a few years?
You can only drive a car without a CT to a CT appointment - no stopping to do shopping or anything else
If the CT has expired you'll have to pay a supplement of between 7.5 and 26.5 Euros when you go to get it tested.

The police may choose to issue an additional fine if you're caught driving without it.
