Consequence if not pay tuition fee at University

Question

Hi,

I am a non-EU student in Brussels.
For some personal reasons from my side, I could not pay for the Master course that I have sign the education contract for. The University emailed me that they "might exclude all exam scores and might take legal steps to retrieve the amount from me".

Can anyone please tell me the legal consequences? (How far the situation could impact me?/ What scerenios could happen?)

If I could not manage to pay the tuition fee in whole, am I allowed to pay in smaller amount and in monthly base?

You need to speak with the University about the situation. Burying your head in the sand will not make the problem go away or make it better. No one here can answer what the university will or will not accept in terms of payment plan. Stuff happens...but you need to speak directly with your creditor to figure out next steps and how to resolve this situation.

Hi Anna, Failing to pay is quite serious in Belgium, you really need to speak to them. They will understand that sometime circumstances change. Ring today and find out who deals with this. Find one person see if you can speak to them each time you ring. They won't be trying to make your life difficult but If you did the study what a waste to not sort out this issue in some way. Even if you're not an EU citizen they are entitle to ask you to fulfil the contract I believe. All the best CHS offer a good listening service if you're in difficulties in other ways.
