Comptable qualification

Question

Does anyone know whether qualification as a "comptable" is recognised in other countries? My son is thinking of studying to become a comptable here in Belgium. Would the qualification enable him to work as an accountant in the UK, or would he in effect be limiting his career options to Belgium?

There are no professional requirements to be an accountant in the UK, but most large UK firms would not recognise the Belgian qualification as meaning anything in this context.
