Clijsters and Navratilova win Legends title in Paris

11:01 08/06/2015

Belgium’s Kim Clijsters won the Legends Ladies’ Doubles competition at the French Open on Saturday with fellow former number one, Martina Navratilova. Despite losing the first set, they recovered to beat the US duo of Lindsay Davenport and Mary Joe Fernandez 2-6, 6-2, 11-9.

Clijsters and Navratilova, the defending champions of the title for veteran stars, came into the final on the back of wins against Nathalia Tauziat and Sandrine Testud in the quarter-finals and Anastasia Myskina and Conchita Martinez in the semi-finals.

Clijsters, who turned 32 on Monday, and Navratilova, 58, were handed the trophy in the Suzanne Lenglen court by Belgian tennis legend and four-time French Open winner Justine Henin. Clijsters, who won three US Open titles and an Australian Open crown, never won a singles title in Roland Garros, despite reaching the final in 2001 and 2003.
