Cleaning waxed wood flooring

Question

I rent an old house which has waxed wood flooring.  Every water drop creates a "wash out" effect and with two toddlers in the house, the floor is looking dreadful. Does anyone now how can I go about cleaning this type of floor? Is there any product that can take away the stains or should I rewax the floor? If so is it neccessary to remove the old wax first? If so does anyone know where can I rent a floor polisher?

Hi Nico. If water is staining your floor, it means that the protection (be it wax or oil) has worn away. You cannot remove the stains. You need to sand and re-wax it. If you are competent and confident, you can rent a sander from Brico and do it yourself. You will need to check out the colour of wax that you will need. Please note that it is a messy job and likely to require repainting of skirting boards (and even walls) afterwards. If you can afford it, I would recommend that you get a professional in.
