City 2 begins 18 months of renovation next week
City 2 shopping centre in central Brussels is undergoing an 18-month-long renovation from next week - but management say the effect on shoppers should be minimal.
The complex on Rue Neuve, which turns 40 next year, will remain fully open during the works, which will be limited mostly to night-times and Sundays.
Floors and ceilings will be refurbished, the food hall will be expanded and the link with Rogier metro and tram station completely redesigned.
Building owner AG Real Estate says the €40 million project aims to transform the shopping centre into "a lively place for exchanges, encounters, relaxation and enjoyment".
Management also hope the renovation will allow it to attract new brands to the mall - including some from abroad which have yet to trade in Belgium.
An AG Real Estate spokesman told La Dernière Heure: "We are looking for innovative brands, whether local or international. Discussions have already been launched with certain brands."
